Pingo Phone Cards
Pingo sells long-distance service that allows you to call across the country and around the world for just pennies. Rates to numbers in the continental U.S. cost as little as 1.8 cents per minute, two cents to Hawaii and three cents to Alaska. For an additional penny per minute you can access your Pingo account via a toll-free number, such as when you are traveling. Rates to numbers outside the U.S. start at two cents per minute, with one-minute rounding (i.e., if your call is one minute and one second long, you are charged for two minutes). Pingo uses the same phone lines as you would with any large carrier such as AT&T or Sprint; it is owned by iBasis, which is one of largest carriers of international phone calls in the world. Once you have created an account, you can dial a local or toll-free number and enter your 10-digit account number (typically your home phone number) and a four-digit pin number, then dial the number you want. Given, this can be a real hassle if you make a lot of long-distance calls. However, Pingo allows you to bypass entering your account number and pin on up to 10 phones. Many people also set up automatic dial on their home phone so they can access Pingo by hitting one button. Pingo offers automatic recharge via your credit card so you'll never run out of credits. There is a 98-cent monthly account fee. Pingo offers a $10 credit to new customers.
