Since 1999, when the U.S. Postal Service first approved the sale of Internet postage through Stamps.com, the site has sold more than 100 million pieces of digital postage. Here's how it works: You create a Stamps.com account and are given $5 in credit during an initial 30-day trial. You then fund your Stamps.com account with a credit card or bank account transfer. Once that's done, you can print postage from your printer to standard-size envelopes and/or mailing labels for letters and packages that weigh five pounds or less. No special hardware is required. You can cancel at any time. Stamps.com also is licensed by the U.S. Postal Service to create and sell personalized PhotoStamps.
